Dear Sag Harbor Neighbors...

On June 11, 2024, the application for the proposed cell tower at 23 Redwood Road (WLNG) was withdrawn.

While we don't yet know if this is a permanent decision on the part of the property owners, we do know that the application in its current form has been officially withdrawn - which is very much thanks to the efforts of this community. Your support - in the form of letters, donations, volunteer hours, and more - helped to make this outcome possible by enabling us to mount a vigorous information campaign... including this website, the printing and distribution of thousands of flyers and postcards, and most importantly, ongoing consultations with and guidance from our attorney throughout the process.

In October, 2025, an article titled "Sag Harbor Considers New Cell Towers, Micro Antennas in Village-wide Plan" ran on 27East.com and in the Sag Harbor Express (https://www.27east.com/sag-harbor-express/sag-harbor-considers-new-cell-towers-micro-antennas-in-villagewide-plan-2401676/.)

According to this article, there are currently several new options under review to improve cell service in the district, as follows:

"One would be to extend the emergency services antenna at the Sag Harbor Firehouse on Brick Kiln Road to 165 feet and also use the broadcast tower at the WLNG radio station on Redwood Road, both of which currently do not hold cellular antennas, in combination with existing facilities, including the water tower at the end of Robeson Boulevard and the Municipal Building. Coverage could be improved across the entire village if another nine to 27 micro towers, which are about the size of a standard telephone pole, were erected," according to Susan Rabold, a consultant with Cityscape.

A second option presented by Rabold "would use the firehouse antenna, also at 165 feet, and 11 to 33 micro towers throughout the village."

WLNG owner Sandra Foschi is quoted in the article, which states: "the station worked with Verizon to build a modern tower at the station itself on Redwood Road. The proposed concealment tower would hold both the radio station’s equipment and cell antennas and “would help the community and help WLNG,” [Foschi] said.

The couple paid $100,000 in legal fees, but the application “was buried” under an environmental review, she said until it was withdrawn

Foschi said the station was in danger of going out of business and said the village had failed to approve its request for a new tower for broadcasting only that would replace its existing tower.

“It feels like you are nailing the coffin on WLNG,” she said, adding that the village should work with the station on a new dual purpose tower."

The article also stated that "Residents of Sag Harbor will be asked to complete a survey in the coming weeks seeking their input on a cellular master plan being developed for the village."

We will do our best to keep you posted on any new developments, and when the survey is issued, we hope everyone will complete it accordingly.

Meanwhile, thank you for your support.
